The New Old School Club and two new excellent collaborators

The Old School Club is open for business!! Our first day was the 17th of June and we are still running the two weeks of free taster classes, drop ins, coffee mornings and a few other events. We have had a few taster classes such as learn to sew,  XL crochet, applique, embroidery, make a sketchbook, floristry and proving very successful, the breakfast craft club & creche and craft night!
You can see some of the photos from the opening weeks on Facebook and also on Instagram, Please follow the blog to get all the updates about new classes, events and news.

Please come along and check the club out, browse around the shop and have a lovely tea or coffee with us .. and a bit of organic cake! We hope we have set up a welcoming and creative environment for you to enjoy a bit of crafty time and relax …  for everyone!.
We are still working on our calendar of classes, but this is very much what we are planning to offer:
– Mornings: all classes & breakfast craft club, the creche is available for little ones to be looked after whilst you attend the class.
– Early afternoon: all classes, baby free.
– Afternoon: after school activities for children 5y+ (16.00 – 18.00)
– Evening: all classes & craft night, starting at 18.30 so you have time to come from work.
The creche is open from 9.30 to 12.30 and we are also having a few activities such as Melodybox music, Little crafters, Spanish classes with Ole Kids and more to come. Please note that you have to stay in the club whilst using the creche.
The Cocrafting space is available!. If you need a bit of space to set up your business, to work away from home or just to get a bit crafty, this is the place for you. Please check our website here for some prices and availability.
I am also very excited and very happy to say that I have now two new collaborators:
Rachel has been amazing since I met her only two weeks ago and she has helped me lots during the opening. She is going to be writing in the blog about the new things happening at the club, the new arrivals at the shop and any new events. You will also see her at the club helping in the shop, welcoming people and doing other very needed tasks! Thank you very much Rachel. A little bit about her here:
Rachel has enjoyed being arty & crafty since she was a child.  She has tried her hand at watercolours, candle making, batik, painting & jewellery making and has attended screen printing courses at Putney Art School, a couple of watercolour sessions, and a nature printing workshop at Chelsea Physic Garden. However, sewing, crochet, knitting & embroidery had not been on her radar until now.

In a previous life, BC (before children), Rachel was a PA & then ran her own delicatessen in Clapham South for 5 years. Then her 1st son Harvey arrived & she worked for a teapot maker & a digital music PR company part time to fit in with school hours.

“Meeting Inma and becoming involved in The Old School Club has been exciting, inspiring & very timely.  Since Stanley (now 3) arrived, I’ve been looking for a way to continue my creative journey & not return to a traditional office environment.  Suddenly I’m ridiculously excited about coloured ‘floss’ for embroidery, discovering applique and the honour of contributing to The Old School Club Blog.  Good things are definitely happening”.

Ruth came to our first Breakfast craft club and creche with little Sam and she enjoyed it so much that she needed to find an excuse to come back every week! she offered to write about the craft club and I thought it would be a great idea to let people know what is happening from a student’s perspective. She will be writing about the Breakfast craft club and all the things we are learning & making, just so you are a bit more jealous! A little bit about her here:
Ruth is currently adjusting and enjoying life as a new mum of baby Sam. Having trained in archaeology and anthropology, she uses these skills in no way whatsoever. Instead she’s spent the last 10 years working in marketing in the world of theatre. In her spare time, she likes to dabble in a bit of making and painting and does the odd art fair here and there.  www.flickr.com/ruth_waters
Here is a photo of the two ladies enjoying a bit of embroidery intro with Bella!
Please check the calendar for our new classes in July and Autumn, we have lots of exciting & new things to learn, make, share and teach!
See you soon,
Inma.
